The colt is so great! His name is Jet. Actually, he has an official name, but I'm not telling until I can get it registered in a few months. Here is a picture of mother and son when he was three days old. He's sweet and gentle, curious, fearless, but respectful. He halters well, picks up his feet, and is pretty much happy to do his lessons.

It's a boy! OMG, he's just gorgeous. I just can't believe it. I thought he'd be a Chestnut, but no, he's a Bay just like mom. But with the frosting highlights that were so unique about his dad. And of course, he's all legs.
As I said, all I cared about was that he was healthy. Not only is he healthy and mom doing well, although pretty darned tired, having given birth at 3 am, but he is gorgeous. Oh, I said that.
Now starts his training. So far today, he was introduced to chickens and peacocks and llamas and other horses and sheep and PEOPLE. Mom keeps a watchful eye, but is calm and lets him check us out. She's such a good mom.
We haltered him for a couple of minutes. We stroked his neck while he was lying down, which put him to sleep. The rooster walked over him. Nothing startled him. His main concern when he wasn't napping was finding his food.
He's such a good baby! Now to find a name. |

No foal yet, but Annabella is getting a little anxious. I think it's going to be a male, and fairly large, even considering that this is Annie's first baby. Please, just asking for a healty baby. Since daddy is a Chestnut, the baby will probably be a Chestnut also, eventhough mom is a Bay. All of Canoe's other offsprings are spitting images of him, plus have his sweet temperment and good nature.
The weather sure changes from day to day, sometimes hour to hour. That's Spring for you.
Oh, and congratulations to my friend Jeannie, who is a new grandmother. Her son had a new baby girl last week and the whole family is smitten. Can't wait to see the baby pictures.
We have a few new lambs and they are always so cute. Spring, the time for new birth! |

The foal is due fairly soon, in just a few days. The weather is getting a little better, sure hope it's nice and sunny when Annabella gives birth. Of course, she'll probably give birth at midnight and keep us up all night. I think the freeze we've been having is over. Anyway, can't wait.
Happy 1st Birthday to my kittens, Mickie, Hailey, Casey, and Ellie. You light up our lives! Hailey is a true farm cat, sits on the hay bales at feeding time and helps with the daily chores. |

Did you catch the new show, American Inventor? What was the deal with the kid? He's the only one I'd give two cents for. More important, he had the only product that I'd actually buy. I'm sure he had no intention of frying his dog in a hot car, but there are nice days when you'd just like to have your dog around and you don't want to shut up the car, and a little fan would be nice. Pretty cool for the dog house.
But more relevant to my life, having a fan for the horse trailer. A breeze would be welcome on those hot days, and we get plenty of those.
I wasn't quite sure how the fan was powered, how good the security was (how snug in the window so the door couldn't be opened), how affordable, etc., but I would have liked to see more.
Note to the judges: I don't care a fig about candy cakes under a dome (whatever the heck that is), and I already have one of those tree cutter thingys. But I do want to give the kid a hug and buy a dog fan. |

We had a nice Winter, sunny days, almost no rain. Now that we are heading into Spring, it's wet and chilly. Go figure. These are wonderful days, however. Our first foal is due in a couple of weeks and we are looking forward to it with great anticipation.
Mom is doing great. She's a beautiful Thoroughbred with great breeding, and so is the daddy, so I'm sure baby will be very special. Both parents are sweet-tempered and easy to handle, very large, and of course, very fast.
Right now, we are just looking after mom and making sure she's taken care of.
Just like everyone else on the Net, I'm going to keep a blog, mine of the life and time of baby horse. My home page here is as good a place as any to keep my diary.
Mom's name is Annabella. That's not her racing name, which is QueenoftheBallet. When I first met her about a year and a half ago, I didn't know what her name was. It was a dark night when I went to feed my friend's horses. She came right up to me and nuzzled me. I think she was a little intimidated by the other horses, having just arrived and being the new kid on the block. She decided to bond with me and find some security. Anyway, right off the bat I called her Annabella, which suits her very well.
We eventually bought her. She was a bit tired, having recently come off the track. We gave her a lot of TLC and she perked up and became a an absolutely gorgeous girl. Pregnancy seems to agree with her, too. |
